| Crossroads Announcements | | By: Joyce | | Posted: April 4, 2008 @ 11:17 AM | | | Dear Friends
We want to make you aware of some opportunities as we approach this Sunday:
First, CLOCKS CHANGE on Saturday! Spring ahead one hour. If you forget, you'll be late for worship.
Second, Crossroads Kids Vianne, Morgan, Crissy and Pablo all have April birthdays. After worship on Sunday everyone is invited to stay for an informal barbecue and swim party at Casabuena. Hotdogs and Hamburgers provided. Bring a salad or chips to share. Talk to Susu Sanders if you have any questions.
Third, this Sunday please bring your donations of good, clean used clothing and shoes (men, women, kids) to church. We will be taking it to La Paz de Cristo, a sister church up Sonora, who collects clothing for needy families. New clothing may also be donated. If you can help transport the items later in the week, please speak with Pastor Joyce or Susu Sanders.
Fourth, we will be celebrating communion this Sunday. The Scripture text to study is Luke 24:13-35

| Update on Annual Meetings & Organization | | By: Joyce Reed | | Posted: October 27, 2007 @ 5:00 PM | | | Dear Friends:
The Baptist Pastors have agreed to let Crossroads organize as a Ministry of the Convention to English-Speaking people in place of organizing as a "church." This is a huge relief to us! On one hand we realize that as a group of believers following Jesus we are the body of Christ and we are a "church," but on the other hand we also realize that we do not have the infrastructure of what many people think of as "church". Being recognized as a Ministry will give us more flexibility and lessen the expectations that the convention churches will have of our fellowship. We will still have a celebrational service on November 24th that shares Crossroads' Vision and Mission with the convention.

We are so blessed to be here and to have the opportunity to walk in fellowship with each of you.
Second, please find the minutes of our Quarterly Church Meeting held in September here. They will also be posted on our web site. Take the time to read through them and remember what we talked about, dreamed about, prayed about, visioned about, and actually voted to accomplish!

Sunday, October 21: Pastor Joyce will bring the message. She will continue on the theme of Worship.

Sunday, December 2: First Sunday in Advent. Kid's Sunday School in charge!
Tuesday, December 11: Women's Christmas Tea
Monday, December 24: Christmas Eve Service at Marina La Paz

| Covering of Prayer | | By: Joyce | | Posted: February 14, 2007 @ 1:30 PM | | | Dear Friends,
This Saturday at 10am Pastor David and myself will be meeting with members of the worship team, the Sunday School teachers, and two couples gifted with encouragement and intecessory prayer to discuss and pray about some of the leadership/discipleship/growth challenges facing Crossroads at this time. Would you please keep this gathering in your prayers?
Please don't feel slighted or left out if you weren't invited. We simply needed to begin this process with a smaller group before we broached these themes at the Quarterly Church Meeting on March 4th. And it made sense to begin with some of those already serving in leadership capacities. We will update everyone about the ideas shared next week.
Also, don't forget that this Sunday we're having a church meeting to begin to review our statements of faith for our organizational meeting on April 28. Bring a sandwich and a salad to share!
Love to you all on Valentine's Day!

| Important Dates for CrossRoads | | By: David and Joyce | | Posted: February 2, 2007 @ 12:17 PM | | | Dear Friends,
As you know from an email Pastor David sent out a week ago, Crossroads will be celebrating her official organization with the Baptist Convention of Southern Baja on April 28 at 6pm. Mark your calendars now!
One part of that special worship service will involve us presenting our Statements of Faith. Therefore, we would like to have a special church meeting in February, March and April to review these faith statements with you. That way, none of you will be surprised that night and think, "Really! We believe that!" Statements of Faith state what we believe about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, Sin & Salvation, etc. They are usually 1-2 sentences with Scripture references that support the belief.
We would like to have these gatherings on the following Sundays:
February 18
March 11
April 22
We can plan easy pot-luck lunches for each of these days so that no one gets too hungry!
Also, our next quarterly church meeting will be held the first Sunday in March, the 4th, right after worship. So in March, we will have two Sundays in a row where there are after-church events. We hope that by scheduling this far ahead, we will minimize any stress this might cause you!
Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!
Blessings

| CrossRoads' Organizational Service! | | By: David and Joyce | | Posted: January 21, 2007 @ 8:30 PM | | | Greetings to all!
I hope you are finding how faithful is our God as you move with him each day.
Be of good cheer, Christ has overcome the world!
I am writing with good news and a challenge.
As you know we have been praying about taking a step of maturity and becoming a part of
a larger group of churches here in La Paz. Part of this is practical meaning we need to
become "legal" as a church here in Mexico. This will enable us to respond to God's leading
in La Paz with boldness. Otherwise we have a reason to stay hidden and we want to shed that
excuse and fear. Part of this is maturity. It will challenge us to grow when we are
accountable to a larger body of believers. Most of us squirm a bit when we consider accountability.
Let me say accountability is good. The Bible indicates it is part of what God desires for the body as a whole.
It will also help keep to us from straying off, down some strange doctrinal road...not
that we are prone to wondering. It's all good. It does present us with a challenge of building
relationship with believers from our surrounding culture and partnering in the work of the Gospel.
May I invite you to get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ and to be a part of showing how
the Lord has grown us in our faith.
We have scheduled our "Organization" service for April 28!
Because our building is so small we will have the actual service at a larger church.
Why do we need to do that? Because the tradition among our Mexican brothers and sisters
is this is that when a church is able to stand on it own, it is cause for thanksgiving, \
worship, and celebration and everyone will be invited! There may be 300 people or more at this service!
Believe it or not, you all are sort of a "poster child" among the Mexican Baptist churches.
They pray for you regularly understanding we are foreigners in a foreign land.
They want us not only to be at home with God in this place but used in mighty ways for God's kingdom.
Our attendance is very important! We simply can't forget we are guests in Mexico.
As a church we have been "hosted" all this time by these very churches.
Though we have not made it a vital part of our ministry, CrossRoads has always been
a mission work supported by the Mexican Baptist Churches, especially the First Baptist Church.
May I invite you to be a part of showing our gratitude!
Some time after the official ceremony we will invite our friends,
brothers and sisters from the First Baptist Church to come over for a cook-out,
a celebration of our relationship, and a spiritual renewal. We will thank God for how CrossRoads
has grown in his care and place ourselves in God's future.
We will be announcing more later so keep your ears open!
Your Pastors, David and Joyce |
